BIO Harlem-based Guy Betancourt is a rising star in the world of stand-up comedy. Growing up in a low-income family, where the battle to make ends meet was a daily struggle, Betancourt found release in his natural ability to make people laugh. After leaving the U.S. Army, Betancourt followed various careers, but nothing gave him the joy and fulfillment of the simple act of entertaining people. So he decided to pursue a career in stand-up comedy and threw himself into education and training to master his craft. He became a protégé of the late comedy teacher and legend, the Fabulous Fat Doctor Blagmon, who mentored Dave Chapelle, Martin Lawrence, Wanda Sykes, Tommy Davidson, Donnell Rawlins, Cocoa Brown, Patton Oswald and countless others. From there, Betancourt went on to study acting, improv, sketch comedy, comedy writing and stand-up at New York's American Comedy Institute, where he graduated in 2017. Betancourt's formal training, undeniable talent, and tireless work ethic quickly propelled him into many of New York’s top comedy venues. He has performed at many of New York’s top clubs, including Gotham Comedy Club (where he opened for Jerry Seinfeld), Broadway Comedy Club, The Westside Comedy Club, Comic Strip Live, LTC Stand-up Comedy, and LTC Live, and is a regular on the tri-state area’s Laugh Out Loud comedy series. In 2018, Betancourt made his television debut on Episode 3 of Philadelphia’s The Laff House: The Introduction, and in 2019, he won the Octoberfest Film Festival Comedy Competition. One of the most promising comedians to appear on the scene in recent years, Betancourt draws audiences in with his warmth and physicality, then wows them with his skilled joke writing and natural gift for storytelling. He knows how to work a room organically, leaving the crowd laughing and begging for more. Betancourt is quickly developing a following and garnering more and more attention in the comedy world, because, quite simply, he is too funny to ignore. Catch him at a venue now and find out for yourself what all the fuss is about before he blows up, while you can still afford the ticket.
